Inkspell By Cornelia Funke

Inkspell is the sequel to Inkheart. I was really impressed with the writing(since it is translated), and even more so with the story. Inkheart pulls characters out of books, while Inkspell pulls characters into books. I am in high suspense waiting to read the third one. One of my new favorites, and a seventh grade reading level, though if looking for a challenge try it in fifth grade.

The Door Within By Wayne Thomas Batson

It's by one of my favorite authors, but not the best book series he's ever written. I love the story of it, but wasn't impressed by the writing. He's definitely become a better writer since then. About a third grade reading level, and still an enjoyable book.

Inkheart By Cornelia Funke

An awesome book full of book characters read directly from books. It was a very long book but worth all of the time that I spent on it. Definitely one of the best books that I have read recently. I recommend it for sixth graders even though it has a higher reading level. I'm very excited to read the second book.

Just So Stories By Rudyard Kipling

Just So Stories is a great book with several small stories in it. It has stories such as How the Elephant Got It's Trunk, or The Beginning of Armadillos. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and thought that the reason why it was written was very touching. I recommend this book for fourth graders to adult. It is a great book to read to someone else.

King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table By Lancelyn Green

This book has made me even more interested in the era of King Arthur, and I thought that with all of the short stories put together it was one of the most entertaining books I have read. I would recommend King Arthur and His Knights of The Round Table for fifth graders to adult.

The Hobbit By J.R.R. Tolkien

The Hobbit is just one book in a fantastic series of fictional stories. It is about a hobbit who doesn't want any part in adventure, but gets dragged into it anyway. He plays a game of riddles with a very mysterious creature, takes part in slaying a dragon, and rescues his dwarf friends from giant spiders! This is one of my favorite books, and would recommend it for sixth graders all the way up to adults.

Disaster! By Ellen Leroe

Disaster! is a book about huge airship and boat accidents during the early 1900's. It includes the sinking of Empress of Ireland, the crash of the Italia and the rescue of its survivors, and the crash of the airship R-101. Although the stories were all similar it was a very exciting book, and I recommend it for third graders on up.

A Wrinkle In Time By Madeleine L'Engle

A Wrinkle In Time is a very interesting book about time and space travel. The father of a large family is on a business trip doing scientific work, and gets lost in another place and time, and it's up to his son, daughter, and a boy named Calvin to rescue him. I thought this was a fascinating book and would recommend this book to any child with high intellect, because it has some abstract concepts.

Redwall By Brian Jacques

Redwall is a book about mice, weasels, stoats, rats and other small creatures of the like. It's about ancient legends coming into being, and battles between good and bad creatures. It is one of my favorite books, and I recommend it for all ages.

The Tale of Despereaux By Kate DiCamillo

The Tale of Despereaux is a book about a mouse in love with a princess that gets trapped in a dungeon with rats. In all his adventures he gets cast out of his mouse community for not cowering and reading pages instead of eating them. He experiences both cruel and kind characters, but presses on to save the princess. I liked this book, and would give it four stars.

Isle of Swords By Wayne Thomas Batson

Isle of Swords is a really great book about pirates in the 1800's. With an Island full of monks protecting their treasure from an evil man, the entire English navy out to get the pirates that protect the treasure, and the pirates that will do anything to get their hands on it. All in all Isle of Swords was a really fun book to read, and I would recommend it for Fourth and Fifth graders on up.

Nick of Time By Ted Bell

Nick of Time is a book about a boy who becomes a spy for Winston Churchill in 1939. He encounters pirates in both 1939 and in 1805, a time machine, and a very mysterious English Lord. It was a great book to read and because of mild violence I would recommend this book for fifth graders and up.
